A couple of the lifties expressed interest when I told them I teach yoga. So I decided to offer a free class in my living room for the lifties. I am really enjoying teaching it, even more than the class I get paid to teach. I think because its all me, its in my own space and I have the freedom to do whatever I want.
Since its free and and in my living room it is low-pressure and laid back. A lot of the people who come have never done yoga before. I love introducing people to yoga, especially when they enjoy it. Many of the same people from the first class have returned every week. As I get to know more people the class is getting bigger and bigger. Thirteen people squeezed into my living room the other week. Also people from other departments like ski patrol, ski school and maintenance have been coming to the class too.
I asked the management at work if they would pay for a hall so there would be room for more people. They said I could have a space in the building in the center of town, but its not much bigger than my living room. Since its not much bigger I figured I would just keep it in my living room because it is nice not to have to go anywhere and its unassuming. When all the tables are moved and the lights are dimmed it transforms nicely into a peaceful space. I hope I can continue teaching in living rooms and modest places as my teaching improves.
Someone different has fallen asleep and loudly snored in shavasana at the end of each class. I like to believe it is because they are so relaxed by my teaching that they can't help but fall asleep. However, it is more likely that the class finishes around 9pm and liftie-ing is hard work so everyone is just tired after a long day of shoveling and bumping chairs.
