Just me and Carl playing at the park |
Hi Friends!
I hope everyone had an amazing week! Thank you to everyone that emailed or commented on my first post. It was so nice to hear what everyone has been up to. Thanks so much all for your support and love!!
This post is dedicated to my travel partner, Carl. Carl is a pretty interesting guy and I thought you would like to know a little about who I will be traveling with. Carl and I met two years ago at Burning Man. My brother Mark introduced us. Carl asked if I wanted to go on an adventure...to the roller disco. My answer was of course, yes. Carl and I, and a couple other friends hopped on our bikes and rode off into the dust to roller disco. It was amazing: 70's music, people in crazy glow in the dark outfits and roller skating in the middle of the desert in the middle of the night. After the roller disco we went bowling, to the temple and on a couple other adventures. It was a very fun first night of Burning Man and Carl was the perfect guide.
Here is a little story to give you an idea about the kind of guy Carl is. Here is an article written a couple years ago about Carl.
Carl explains how it came about; "It was a pretty crazy scenario. Was just sitting at my computer at work and the idea for the mega meditation popped into my head. Went to the local paper website and submitted a news tip.
An hour later my phone rang and it was a reporter. Didn't really realize it was the interview. Later that day the photographer called and wanted to me to meet him right away for a photo. Left work early and rode my bike across Boulder in a mega windstorm.
The photographer wanted to pose me in the park meditating under a tree. I felt kinda ridiculous and it was hard not to laugh as i don't actually meditate like that but, you gotta have the icon. Went home and the reporter needed some missing info so I went to the website to get her number and there I was on the front page and next morning on the cover of the printed edition.
Next day my phone started ringing of the hook from newspapers, radio shows and TV stations. Turns out the local paper in Boulder is owned by big media outlet that owns the small papers in small towns across the US and they ran the article everywhere.
For the next week I was doing live interviews on radio and TV. The apex was the Sacramento morning TV show. I was skyped in live and the hosts were asking me questions. Then he said "Ok, lets do it ! Lead us in the meditation now !".
I was hit with a wave of panic at the thought of leading 10,000+ people on a meditation to stop an oil leak!! Told everyone to close their eyes and then guided them down to the leak and brought in visions of the dolphins and other sea creatures helping.
I watched the video feed as they cut to the studio audience and behind the scene crew, camera operators, sound and lighting techs. Everyone standing around with eyes closed meditating.
I was also bombarded with emails and facebook messages from people all over the world that saw the article and had the same vision to do a mass meditation. Rush Limbaugh even talked about me on his show as an example of how crazy people are."
Carl has so much positive energy that he is always trying to give to the world in many different ways. He also has an amazing sense of humor and an open mind. I consider myself pretty lucky to have the opportunity to travel with such a happy, funny, caring person.
Keep in touch! 5 days till I leave for India!!
